COLOMBO: Increasing temperature up to 40-degree celsius affecting chicken industry badly. One of the small chicken seller told that heat started increasing in the late March. They were taking precautions from late March to keep the chicken in a cool place but nothing can beat the heat. One of the seller told that,
“Usually when the heat is high, we use ice or water to keep the pens cool. This time they were no match for the heat. I lost half of my stock,” said Rumi Jamaldean, who runs a farm with around 8,000 birds in the Kurunegala District, about 120 kilometres from Colombo.
